About The Constellation Nerdulus

Project History:

Tom and I probably started this project well over five
years ago. I dumped the script for the game and I believe
Tom translated the intro. Then for whatever reason, the
project got shelved. Fast forward to last year and
after we finished our God Slayer translation, we
resurrected our translation for this game.

Hacking went fairly quickly and while I wouldn't call it
my best work, I think I got the job done. I expanded the
ROM for a limitless script, I hacked the player names to 5
characters instead of 4 and various other interface hacks.
As an added bonus I also fixed an oversight in the original
game that required me to go into the game's scripting code
and make my own additions.

I should point out that there are still a number of issues
present in the original game, which I believe are more flaws/
oversights in the game's scripting code. I chose not to pursue
to fix them because they did not affect gameplay and I'd have
to basically start a whole new project. 

As for the game itself, it's your typical NES DQ clone.
Though it's not quite as grindy as its peers (the encounter
rate is still pretty high). I was expecting more of a
parody RPG, but instead I got one of the weirdest games
I've ever worked on. Not the funniest game I've ever
played, but it still has its moments.

Regarding the PCE CD version of the game, I don't know too
much about it. I'm sure Tom would know more, but I'm not
interested in hacking it.   This is coming from someone
who had a Turbo Duo and got into the hobby to translate
PCE games. But I know enough to know, I'd probably have
an easier time learning to translate PSX games instead.
But never say never.

Translator Comments

I translated this bizarre game entirely on a whim,
but it took a lot more time and effort to complete
than I'd ever expected.

Some people may take issue with the game's title
being translated as The Constellation Nerdulus
instead of The Constellation of the Nerd,
but it's not that big of a change in my opinion.

There were a few slightly more substantial alterations:

Some wordplay had to be revised to work in English,
and the names of enemies were often revised to make
the enemies easier to identify and remember.

Nothing else was altered, so if you're a purist,
don't worry. The script itself was untouched,
for better or for worse.

I have no plans to translate the PC Engine remake.

One last thing: I want to express my thanks to Novyal
for his excellent image editing skills. I hope he can
offer his assistance again for my next project with
Pennywise!
